Work legally in Colombia: Work Visa.

Contract with a Colombian company, qualified profile and a file shielded before Cancillería. 1-to-3-year M visa, with dependents and 5 accrued years toward residency.

✓ Transparent fees ✓ Plan verdict on the call ✓ No hidden costs

The Work Visa in numbers

M-type visa tied to your contract: approved company and role. Apply from Colombia or your country.

Duration1 to 3 years
Work allowed?Yes — approved company & role only
DependentsSpouse & children under 25
Company must proveAverage ≥ 100 min. wages ($174.7M COP)
Path to residency5 accrued years → R visa
Official fees$56 study + $279 issuance + $294,000 cédula

Visa tied to the contract: if the contract changes or ends, the visa is directly affected; working for another company revokes it. We recommend an indefinite-term contract with a clause conditioning validity on visa approval.

Work Visa requirements

The file Cancillería expects to see — we build it with you and your employer, document by document.

  • Contract summary in Cancillería's official format, with clear start and end dates (we recommend indefinite, conditioned on the visa).
  • Legal-representative motivation letter: your fit, duties, credentials and why not a Colombian for the role.
  • Company statements (6 months) averaging ≥ 100 minimum wages ($174,688,200 COP in 2026).
  • Apostilled degree (or experience certifications) and, for regulated professions, the professional council license.

Straight answers, before you ask

What must my employer prove?

Solvency (6 months of statements averaging ≥ 100 minimum wages), an official-format contract and a letter justifying hiring you over a Colombian. We coordinate directly with your company.

What if I change jobs?

The visa dies with the contract: a new employer or role requires a new visa, and working elsewhere revokes it. That's why the initial contract must be negotiated right from day one.

Does my foreign degree count?

Yes, apostilled and translated; or experience certifications backing you. For regulated professions in Colombia (health, engineering, law…), you also need the council license.

Does it lead to residency?

Yes. It's an M visa: 5 continuous years as a holder let you apply for the Resident visa. Ideal if your plan outlasts the contract.

How long and from where do I apply?

Usually 2 to 5 weeks once filed. From Colombia or your country of residence or nationality.

Do I need a lawyer if it's all online?

No platform requires counsel. But this visa gets reviewed with a magnifying glass on both sides — company and worker — and a poorly answered requirement delays your start date. For your work move, it's worth shielding.

Start with clarity: the $80 consultation

Camila diagnoses your work case, hands you the exact document list, timelines and consular strategy — and confirms your plan in writing, fully credited on hire.

  • 360° analysis: your profile, your contract and your company's solvency.
  • Strategic timing: start date and the best consulate.
  • Your plan, confirmed: Essential $450, Protected $650 or Turnkey — decided with Camila.
